How your life has changed after COVID? And the life of your community? What consequences has the pandemic had – and continues to have –  on your everyday life?

We want to hear more about your experience

If you are a budding cartoonist, an established comic book artist or a young fan, now is the right time to share it, combining words with images.

You won’t be alone. You will share this experience with Comic book artists and cartoonists, amateurs and professionals, young fans and  young people, interested in exploring the world of balloons, living in the following countries: Ecuador, Etiopia, Guatemala, Iraq, Italia, Kenya, Libia, Marocco, Mozambico, Tanzania, Tunisia.

How to take part in “My Covid in Comics” Challenge?

  1. Share an illustrated contribution (comic, strip or cartoon)  on social media and add the hashtag #mycovidincomics
  2. Enroll yourseld in the online course on comics micro-history and techniques edited by the graphic journalist Claudio Calia.

The challenge

The challenge is to be able to collect testimonies, experiences, stories from different countries, sometimes very far away, in order to give back in a collective and plural form a historical present that has brought together distant places, even though it has slowed down movement and mobility, and that seemed able – at least for a moment – to rediscover empathy and sensitivity, without erasing social contradictions and economic inequalities. In fact, often by increasing them.

The challenge within the challenge is to be able to accompany, along the path that leads to this choral narrative, even people who have never (or little) practiced drawing and illustration until now.

Why partecipate?

Taking part in the call for applications for the free online course on micro-history and techniques of comics, aimed at young fans and curious people, who will be accompanied by the graphic journalist Claudio Calia in exploring the world of balloons and creating a comic.

The contributions collected, accompanied by biographies of the authors, will be relaunched in the social channels of the promoters of the challenge and finally gathered in the volume “My covid in comics. A social tale of a global pandemic”.

Who is the calling for?

Comic book artists and cartoonists, amateurs and professionals, young fans and curious young people, interested in exploring the world of balloons, living in the following countries: Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Iraq, Italy, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Mozambique, Tanzania, Tunisia.
